Hola "Una",

Thank YOU, Safar,

Yes, the songs of the 1960s and 70s were what got me started (in my youth), but I am beginning to explore the world. There has been so much music written about issues in various societies, and learning about the historical background has been fascinating. So much to learn and share.

I'm always on the lookout for songs that have lyrics specific to a person, place or event in history, so if you have a suggestion, please send it along. :-)

What an interesting post! Have you read ‘The Twilight Zone’ by Nona Fernandez? Based of this post I think you’d be really interested in it! I wrote about it here if you’re interested: https://open.substack.com/pub/marthasmonthly/p/september-reads?r=f29wj&utm_medium=ios&utm_campaign=post

It was my first insight into the Pinochet dictatorship.

Thank you for your comment, Martha, and for the URL. "The Twilight Zone" looks exactly like something I would like to read.

How poignant that so many Chileans, in the country that received thousands of refugees from Franco's dictatorship of the 1940s, would later be forced to leave under their own Pinochet dictatorship.

@marthaadams, I found the audiobook on Audible and it is now in my library - on my "To Read" list! Thanks again.

Martha, I've just finished 'The Twilight Zone'. Informative but chilling and horrible. An important insight into this period of history.

Did you enjoy it Louise? Very informative and chilling I agree - I learnt a lot from it and I really enjoyed the perspective it gave. I found it very gripping, I was flying through it at point very desperate to read what was going to happen next!

I listened to the Audible version on the train to work and while taking walks. Not the most pleasant experience, but a necessary one, I think. It gave a reality to everything I had read about the terror of the time.

Ahh yes I can completely see how listening to the book would be a very different and even more unnerving than reading it. Adds a whole other dimension to it - and like you said more of a reality to everything you had previously read about the time!

I tend to remember better by listening than by reading. The problem is, I can still hear the narrator saying, “the man who tortued people” over and over again.
