Never heard this one before. What a lovely sentiment. Reminds me of other 60s songs honoring the struggles of the common people, such as Bob Dylan's "The Chimes of Freedom," and the Rolling Stone's "Salt of the Earth," which Joan Baez also covered.

Thank you for the comment, Tom. You've given me two more songs to add to the ever-growing ToDo list!

Thank you Louise, for your words about our global community experience 🌠 Joan Baez is the voice I was grown up with. I was listening to her music with 5 years waiting for beginning of school, to finally learn about all the signs, words...I tried to understand but can memorize, that I already felt an understanding from my heart. So glad for this song and sweet memories today! There was a very nice documentary few years ago (arte) about her and her life. Have a beautiful 2d advent, start into the winter season 💛

Thank you, Collective. What a beautiful sentiment. It seems that Joan Baez has touched people all over the world. ❄️ May she continue to do so.

A beautiful song! I plan to learn it in both languages!

Yes, do!

There are subtle differences, of course. I first learned it in Spanish, but explained it in English for students. I prefer the Spanish because it flows, unforced, with the melody. She released it first in English in 1972 and later in Spanish in 1974.

Thank you for your message!

Another beautiful choice, Louise.

In answer to your question, when weary, I just sleep! I also retreat into books.

Have yourself a very good 2024.

Ah, yes! Retreating into books. A great way to recharge! (Perhaps on a daily basis? ;-)

Of course! I'm reading a Portuguese novel at the moment (in English) which I'm sure in its day must have been scandalous. "O Crime do Padre Amaro" by Eça de Queiroz (also doing @Simon's read alongs too - https://footnotesandtangents.substack.com )
