So many age-old questions that get passed on from generation to generation. Only the details change. It's what sick humans do instead of compromising and sharing, they / we tolerate or rationalize evil.
The woman at the bottom of the post holding the cardboard with the quote from "1984" sums it up. "They were not sufficiently interested in public events to notice what was happening." This benefits those in power. Is it by design? If we don't teach people to be aware - and do something, they will not be. If we don't teach people that it is not right to treat women (and children) a certain way, they will not think twice about abuse. Another book comes to mind is Robert Fulghum's "All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten." Why is it that as adults, we forget the basic rules of just being kind, of just helping one another?
Love is NOT hate. War is NOT peace. No is NOT yes. Period.
Tracy Chapman is a legend of political songwriting. Thanks for the chance to listen to and think about the powerful message in this song I hadn’t paid proper attention to for years
It's interesting when we go back to the songs we know well and really listen again, isn't it? Students in my courses have often said the same thing. They listen to the music and hum/sing along but don't pay attention to the messages. There is so much to learn from and to think about with regard to the lyrics.

Thank you for your thoughts, Mark.

All so very true. I think about Robert Fulghum's book frequently nowadays.
