Space race costs vs. needs: Phil Ochs' 1963 "Spaceman" critiques spending. Poverty & disease persist; could funds be better used? #英検2級 #protestsong #TOEIC
Very timely. Cat just read about NASA astronauts who land on earth today after accidental 9-month-long space journey. Cat is curious to hear about their experience.
When Cat has thinkings about exploring space, Cat remembers learning about the "overview effect", a transformative inner experience shared by astronauts after viewing earth from outer space. Cat read that the overview effect give feelings of awe, transcendence, and greater appreciation for beautiful, fragile, Earth. Cat wishes overview effect could be experienced by every human on earth, not only humans who explore space!
I wonder if we can experience the overview effect even if we’re here on our planet and not in space. In the hurry of our daily routine, we often miss the magic. There are so many mysteries right here that we have yet to explore, many of them right inside us.
I think that Cat might have experienced it once or twice. You write about being very calm and watching “outside workings”, of understanding the perspectives of birds and dust bunnies. That moment of being still, of being open, of touching magic.
I also wonder…. does this transformative inner experience also lead to a greater understanding of how we, the planet, and all the creatures on it, are all connected? Does that experience help us to understand that we need to care for other living things and not just ourselves? Hmm.🤔
Thank you for commenting, Cat. As usual, you’ve made me think about this a little more deeply.
Very true, Louise. We are all connected, and Cat does believe that outer change follows inner change. Cat likes what you wrote: "In the hurry of our daily routine, we often miss the magic." Cat sometimes forgets this important truth—that big changes can occur with even a small shift in perspective. Thank you for reminding 🌱🌈 😻
