It was such a sad, sad, unnecessary time for so many. My dad had an album with that song on it. I loved it then and now.

It's such a touching song. So simple and so revealing of what sacrifice means to everyone directly involved. Thank you for your comment, Kathleen.

Steve Goodman’s brother, Dave, is one of my best friends. Thank you for showcasing Steve’s historic music. XOX

I’m honored, Ken. Steve wrote some of the best songs. I’m sure there are others I could do as well. Vegematic comes to mind…. We were blessed to have him. He left us far too soon! Say Hi to Dave for me!🎶

Ken, my mom was a diehard Cubs fan. She had a good chuckle when I played that song for her. When they won the World Series, she was in the US and I was here, both listening to the same broadcast. I’ll never forget that moment. At her memorial, I played “Dying Cubs fan's last request” for her. Go Cubs!⚾️

I know Steve Goodman's music, but I never knew this song.

What a powerful message that, sadly, never really gets to fade away.

If you hear this song once, it should register in your mind forever.

Thanks for this reminder of the goodness of Goodman.

It is horrifying to think of the number of women who were and still are being made widows by war... And still the lessons aren't learned, still war continues...

Thank you for this song Louise, I have the vaguest of memories of the lyrics from very early childhood when of course they meant very little; now they break my heart. 💔

The song is hard enough, Susie, but there are also the innumerable soldiers who came home with traumas that never healed. I can't fathom how this must have affected their children and those around them. War has to be the worst and most useless thing that mankind has produced.

I have listened to news flashes all day of attacks on Tehran and the possible repercussions if they retaliate. They did, and so it goes on...

There are days when I feel so uncomfortable in my skin, so disgusted that the instigators don't even have the courage they are born with I feel we don't deserve this beautiful planet filled with beautiful humans... and I daren't even mention a certain 50 million dollar birthday party for a person so devoid of sense and so vain he thinks the world should join in despite a war that he has backed.

I actually cried today... I am only surprised that I stopped. 😞

There have been and will be too many kind, courageous, creative souls we have lost, and there are many kind, courageous, creative souls now who are standing up to say no to all of this senseless conflict and cruelty. Do what you can, where you are, with what you have. You’re not alone, Susie. xx
