I'm a long time fan of John McCutcheon esp having lived a few stone throws away from him in Northeastern TN. "Not in my Name" is surely one of his most powerful antiwar songs.

My take on the song is that he's saying - "Don't ever kill people or destroy livelihoods because you believe in "Me" (be that Jesus, Abraham etc.) I also think he was inferring don't use my money (taxes) to fund it. Then in a way, it's done by me.

Indeed, it is a powerful song. And "we" are responsible in many respects. We're also responsible for preventing and ending conflicts when possible and to the best of our ability. Good to hear from you, Mark. ☮️

Dear Louise,

Thank you for letting me know that Gandhi said "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind." I can see how difficult it is to swallow it when you are the first victim, but at the same time I fully understand the logic behind his quote. I will do my best and keep it for the rest of my life. Thank you.

Thank you for your comments, Mitsuru. Conflicts tend to spiral out of control. If we can nip them in the bud, we could prevent a lot of misery for many people, animals, and the environment.
