Thanks for your comment, Candice. Agree that the answers aren’t always clear. Hindsight on conflicts is 20/20, but each time, I wonder if there wasn’t a solution that wasn’t tried before things got out of hand. Perhaps not. Are such conflicts inevitable?🤔
I agree with your comments overall Candice. But I wonder, as we look at the situation of the United States and it's waning financial support for Ukraine's if we're not seeing the warning similarities between Hitler and Putin in the leadup to what became WW2 and what could easily be the final war - WW3.
I'd never heard this before, Tom. Thanks for mentioning it. If anyone is following this thread, the video is at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkpiwHo0Po0 . Of course, the melody is familiar, "When Johnny Comes Marchin' Home Again". According to the web, the sheet music was published in 1863. I'd thought it was from the Civil War. How did the Irish Rovers get hold of it? Do you know the story behind that?
The Russia invasion of the Ukraine is so scary. NATO and the EU nations seem to cautious about standing up to Putin. Time will tell if another world war is on the horizon.
The most poignant lyrics for me are:
Do all those who lie here know why they see died?
Did you really believe them when they told you “The Cause”?
In all wars or conflicts the answers to these questions are not always obvious or easy…except for WWII. It was a war that needed to be fought.

A very well written and poignant song.
Yes, it is. Had you heard it before, Tom? PPM did a version, too, but I think I like this one a bit more.
No, I never heard it before. A similar, though less solemn son with a similar theme is the Irish ballad.
"Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye." Also reminds me of the novel and movie "Johnny Got His Gun."

The lyrics, photos and background of "No Man's Land" painted such a tragic picture. But it was the music that will make it particularly hard to erase.

I agree completely, Candice.
