Ella Baker was an amazing civil rights leader who helped fight for everyone to be treated the same. In the 1960s, there were strong leaders of the Civil Rights movement such as Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., James Farmer, and Roy Wilkins. They joined together to make important groups to fight for change. Ella believed in giving power to the people, especially young people. She helped start many important movements. One of these was the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). Ella helped create SNCC with young Black leaders including Diane Nash, Marion Barry, John Lewis, and James Bevel. Ella believed that students needed an organization of their own. She encouraged them to lead the way.
Ella Baker was a strong voice for change and inspired many others to join the fight for justice.
People cannot be free until they realize that peace—we can talk about peace—that peace is not the absence of war or struggle, it is the presence of justice. — Ella Baker

Once again Louise you have posted an essay on a subject and person being studied in my, once a week, History class. I will send this over to my colleague who I know will not have found the song. Thank you for always being a step ahead! x
